by Josh McCrohon @JoshMcCrohon57Pre-Fight Word at 20:20: In my predictions, I predicted Chris Eubank Jr. to win this fight but I underestimated the ability of Groves. Chris Eubank recently said: “On Saturday, I will be on top of George from round one, punishing him for having the arrogance for stepping into the ring with me” It’s a bit ironic, isn’t it? Talking about arrogance! (Kind of hope Groves wins now!) IT IS FIGHT TIME! Let’s start the analysis, you’ve already read the pre-fight word; it’s time for Eubank vs. Groves! Round 1: Both boxers defend and throw occasional punches, both waiting for their time to strike. Groves is looking good as he is directing is fight so far. They clinch against the ropes to end this round. My Thoughts: Decent round for Groves, definitely controlled the first round of this 12 round bout. Round Winner: George Groves Round 2: Eubank is trying to push away from Groves but the latter hits a small combination on Eubank. Eubank hits a nice right hook to end. My Thoughts: Much better round for Eubank, this was an explosive round! Round Winner: Chris Eubank Jr. Round 3: Both men come out swinging! Eubank starts giving body shots but moves quickly up to the head and inflicts some damage. Groves and Eubank’s head collides and Eubank’s eye is busted open. Groves dominates the rest of the round. My Thoughts: That eye is going to hinder Eubank throughout the remainder of this fight. Round Winner: George Groves Round 4: Eubank starts with decent headshots. Groves hits a great head jab and both men exchange solid punches. Chris Eubanks hits a brilliant combo to end a tiring round for both fighters. My Thoughts: Eubank is starting to look impressive. Round Winner: Chris Eubank Jr. Round 5: This. Is. A. War. Groves is now showing off his work on the inside. My Thoughts: a close round but it’s worrying for Eubank. Round Winner: George Groves Round 6: Eubank is now throwing punches in flurries and is showing signs of frustration, maybe a tad too much frustration? Perhaps. My Thoughts: Groves took advantage of Eubank’s anger this round. Round Winner: George Groves Round 7: Chris Eubank hits several combinations on Groves who’s against the ropes but George quickly escapes that predicament. My Thoughts: Eubank’s best round in a while. Round Winner: Chris Eubank Round 8: Chris Eubank stuns George Groves and there’s a MASSIVE exchange towards the ending of the round. My Thoughts: What. A. Bloody. Round. (Literally) Round Winner: George Groves Round 9: Eubank hitting big shots straight away but Groves slows him right down. Eubank is now hunting for a KO win at this point in the fight. My Thoughts: Eubank needs a punch which stuns Groves and he needs to take advantage otherwise-he loses. Round Winner: Chris Eubank Round 10: Eubank hits a LETHAL right hook onto a Groves but DOESN’T take advantage of it. Groves batters Eubank and gets him leaning on the ropes. Eubank gets him Groves into the corner but Groves retaliates with a volley of punches. My Thoughts: Remember last time when I stated that Eubank needed a punch which stunned Groves and then needed to take advantage? THAT was the punch to do it but he never took the advantage! A wasted opportunity which could’ve led him to winning the fight. Round Winner: George Groves Round 11: Eubank goes for Groves but Groves slows him down again. Eubank is still going for this KO but Groves hits a NICE punch. Eubank is swinging but I think it’s far too late now. My Thoughts: This is not looking good for Eubank. Round Winner: George Groves Round 12: Eubank is officially desperate at this rate. Groves is defending now, he knows he’s won. The fight ends with Eubank winning the last round; if only there was a round 13... My Thoughts: Eubank’s best round this fight. Shame it wasn’t round 2 or 3. Round Winner: Chris Eubank George Groves wins in Round 12 via Unanimous Decision to Retain his WBA Title and Progress to the Final. If you add up all my Round winners you will get the result:
George Groves: 7 Chris Eubank JR: 5 Groves dominated the majority of this fight. I hope Eubank rethinks his tactics for his next fight. Next Steps: George Groves is off to the finals of this tournament which we already know. Chris Eubank’s next fight should be James DeGale. I’ve been Josh and this was the Boxing Analysis! by Josh McCrohon @JoshMcCrohon57Welcome to the first episode of the Boxing Analysis in 2018! This won’t be a round-by-round breakdown of professional boxing, this will be a round-by-round breakdown of amateur boxing - a first for this site! This is the Boxing Analysis of the biggest sporting event on YouTube: KSI vs. Joe Weller. Round 1: The fight starts off with KSI going for the win straight away while Weller blocks. Weller is remaining on the blocking side while KSI is still throwing punches. Weller throws 2 punches and goes back to blocking which is a good strategy, but not at the right time of the fight. Weller throws a few punches which push KSI back but not for long, KSI still in control. KSI is making Weller stagger, but it isn’t long until Weller gets KSI against the ropes. KSI hits a great looking uppercut which bursts Weller’s lip open. They exchange punches but it’s still KSI who is leading. My Thoughts: Great first round from both men. Weller did hit KSI but should’ve did more to capitalise, whereas KSI didn’t give up and kept pushing forward. Weller isn’t looking good at this round. Round Winner: KSI Round 2: The referee stops the fight as there’s a gum shield on the canvas then the fight continues. KSI has Weller in a frontface headlock which gets broken up. KSI hits a nice right hook, Weller retaliates with a nice jab of his own. There’s some body shots exchanged and they both hit face shots. Weller isn’t blocking as much as he did in the first round - is that a mistake? KSI goes for a BIG right hook but Weller ducks - if he hadn’t, this fight might be over. My Thoughts: This fight has been explosive. Well done to both men. Round Winner: KSI Round 3: KSI comes out swinging from the get go and knocks Weller’s mouthguard out. Weller gets a new moutguard from his team. KSI hits an uppercut but Weller replies with a jab. KSI hits a beautiful combination and Weller receives a standing count - he’s still going strong. KSI has got Weller against the ropes and hits another combo. Weller gets another standing count. KSI hits another combo and the referee calls the fight off. KSI is victorious. That was a great fight. KSI clearly knew what he was doing throughout this fight and was controlling the direction. Weller was prepared for this fight however he wasn’t ready for KSI. You can’t really argue with that result.
by Josh McCrohon @JoshMcCrohon57It’s time for the Boxing Analysis! Are you ready for Lemieux vs. Saunders for the WBO world middleweight championship? This is going to be good - let’s get into the analysis! Round 1: Good few punches from both men here. There wasn’t a punch that looked too brutal but that’s what you’d expect in an opening round. Thoughts: This was an explosive opening first round. Fight is looking like it could go either way but I’m firmly sticking with my prediction that Saunders and Lemieux go the distance with Saunders winning by decision. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 2: They both went for it, this round. The first half was all Lemieux but Saunders knocked it up a gear and hit a stunning combo of punches which rocked Lemieux against the ropes. Thoughts: This was a close round, a really close round. As I said Lemieux was landing great with swift punches but Saunders went up two steps. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 3: Good body shots on Lemieux’s part but once again he is overshadowed by Saunders who has had the better round this time. Both men’s timing is excellent but unfortunately for both men, their timing clashes with their opponent’s timing. Thoughts: Really good round. Things are slightly looking up for Lemieux but at the rate Saunders is going, Lemieux needs to find a way to slow the undefeated boxer down, somehow. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 4: The round kicks off with some slow punches and that asks the question - Has Lemieux has slowed him down? But later in the round you find the answer: No. BJ Saunders got a good combination in this round. Saunders repeatedly dodges 3 of Lemieux’s punches. If he didn’t dodge all 3, he would be knocked out now. Lemieux has Saunders in a clinch against the ropes but nothing helps him in that way. Thoughts: This might make the difference. Lemieux doesn’t look the same, he looks kind of hurt which isn’t a good sign for him but that might just be me. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 5: Smart blocking by both men so far. Both boxers moving well (mainly Saunders). Lemieux throwing punches but barely any connect which isn’t going to help him in the longer scheme of things. Thoughts: This, as I said, was a standard round. Lemieux misses the punch and Saunders looks into the crowd which is in-ring mindgames and that’s going to put Lemieux off. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 6: There’s been something I’ve not been talking about and that is Lemieux trapping Saunders in the ropes continually. Lemieux is doing well this round but I don’t think it is enough. Thoughts: Lemieux needs something big because as it stands Saunders has won all 6 rounds and I agree! Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 7: Saunders starts the round getting the better of Lemieux and hits a good right hook which stuns him. He follows that up with a swift left jab that makes Lemieux’s nose bleed. Lemieux gets destroyed in this round, completely dominated, however he does land a handful of decent hits but none with lasting effects on Saunders. Saunders gets good punches in the corner. Thoughts: Saunders easily won this round, no questions asked. He killed Lemieux in this round and the man needs a miracle. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 8: Lemieux gets a good few body shots in but once again, Saunders gets the better of Lemieux which is not good for him. Not much else to say this about round. Thoughts: This isn’t good for Lemieux. I know this is stating the obvious but I’ll say it anyway. The only way Lemieux can win now is knockout. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 9: Some fine shots, a good jab by Lemieux. Lemieux executes another headlock but the referee stops it again. Saunders hits a good few punches this round. Saunders strikes Lemieux with a great jab to end the round! Thoughts: BJ Saunders is wrapping this fight up I think. This is going to go the distance, almost confirmed at this point. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 10: We have reached double digits. Fast paced round! Lemieux badly hurts Saunders but it doesn’t last long as Saunders retaliates. Saunders hits a good couple of combos and finishes the round with a swift uppercut. Thoughts: Lemieux’s best round so far but it still wasn’t enough, if he did go a little bit longer he could’ve took the round but it wasn’t to be. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 11: Fast action to begin this round which is always lovely to see. Lemieux brings the fight for the first 30 seconds or so. Saunders doesn’t reply too kindly as he hits a punch and 2 steps back which is a smart technique in the sport of boxing. Lemieux hits a right hand which startles Saunders but it’s not enough. Thoughts: He did finish the round well but if he started pushing himself a minute earlier he would’ve won this round but I have to give this to Saunders but just by a few inches. Round Winner: BJ Saunders Round 12: Good start to the last round for both fighters. Saunders has been impressive - like really impressive - in this 12 round bout. Lemieux isn’t a push over as he had great opportunities but didn’t take them. Saunders stands back for the last 15 seconds as he knows what the final result is going to be! BJ Saunders Retains His WBO Middleweight Championship Via DecisionThoughts: Great fight! Lemieux wasn’t enough to end the streak but who is it going to be? Whoever it is, I wish them luck. Saunders has really outdone himself this time. I agree with the result.
What a fight! That was definitely Saunders’ best fight of his career! I’ve been Josh, that was boxing and that was the Boxing Analysis. See you next time! by Josh McCrohon @JoshMcCrohon57Round 1: DeGale throws some swift punches but slows down. DeGale hits a nice body punch but Truax shows no damage. They both exchange nice punches. Truax connects a good right hand jab to close the first round. Thoughts: It was a slow yet enjoyable first round with some great punches and makes me look forward to the 2nd round. Round Winner: James DeGale Round 2: Great round, this. Both men going for gold as expected. Thoughts: Both men switched up the scene in good fashion. Round Winner: James DeGale Round 3: I’ll admit that the stream is messing up during this round. With the parts I have seen, Truax got the upper hand this round with some solid punches out of nowhere. Thoughts: This was a really good round of boxing. Truax’s best round yet in this fight. DeGale needs to be careful... Round Winner: Caleb Truax Round 4: DeGale is throwing some pretty limp punches in this round as he looks quite hurt. He does however throw better punches later as the round progresses. Truax gets great body shots in but DeGale responded with a good combo. Thoughts: This was a great round. I think this may be the start of the downfall of DeGale’s title run as I stated in the round breakdown, he looks pretty hurt. Round Winner: James DeGale Round 5: Truax takes advantage right from the get go as he notices that DeGale isn’t performing at 100%. He throws powerful punches to a blocking DeGale who has resorted desperately to blocking mode. Good right hand being thrown by DeGale but it’s all too late as the round is finished up. Thoughts: Truax did really well in this round whilst DeGale had no option but to block for the majority of the round which he attempted in a really well thought out manner. Round Winner: Caleb Truax Round 6: DeGale kicks off the round once more with his blocking. Truax forces DeGale onto the ropes but they get back into the middle of the ring. It’s not too long until Truax backs DeGale into the corner once again. Thoughts: DeGale needs a miracle here, he is done for. Round Winner: Caleb Truax Round 7: DeGale keeping his face blocked is smart but isn’t getting him the win. Nice clinch decision by DeGale, DeGale is slowly getting himself back out there, and boy does he need to! Thoughts: The current score in my opinion in rounds is 5-2 to Truax, it’s not looking good for the reigning champion! Round Winner: Caleb Truax Round 8: DeGale hits a nice hook but is forced into blocking once again. He is still stuck in the corner with nowhere to go. Truax still the one deciding the pace of the fight. Good body shots. Thoughts: This round was good. Nothing else to say. Round Winner: Caleb Truax Round 9: Both men going for it now. DeGale getting in some shots but missing a good few, Truax looking tired now. DeGale’s best round since the fourth. Thoughts: Great round but that’s now what I’m going to be talking about. Boxnation’s current score is 86-85 to DeGale which I personally disagree with strongly. Truax has been on top for the vast majority of this fight! Round Winner: James DeGale Round 10: Truax got really good punches in which clearly damaged DeGale. Truax dominating this round. DeGale’s title is in severe jeopardy at this time. Thoughts: Good combinations by Truax in this bout. Round Winner: Caleb Truax Round 11: Pace has quickened but still being determined by Truax which isn’t a good sign for DeGale. The only way I see DeGale winning is due to knockout which I don’t see happening anytime soon. Thoughts: This was a great round with great punches and good combinations. Round Winner: Caleb Truax Round 12: The 12th and final round turned out great! Truax came out swinging. But it was all too little too late for DeGale! Thoughts: Truax managed to do well, DeGale did great towards the ending of the round but it was too late! Round Winner: Caleb Truax Caleb Truax Wins Via Decision to Become the New IBF Super Middleweight ChampionThoughts: This was a fantastic fight with great action. The first few rounds had DeGale out on top but something changed early on and he looked hurt. Truax dominates proceedings from there. In all honesty, I agree with the decision.
