by Josh McCrohon @JoshMcCrohon572017 was a fantastic year for boxing but as one year ends, a new one begins: it may be the first month but we already have many fights confirmed for 2018. We don’t know what the second half of the year has in store but we do know the first. Here’s 6 fights you’ll want to see in the first 6 months of 2018. SIDENOTE: THESE FIGHTS ARE NOT IN A PARTICULAR ORDER! Amir Khan vs. Phil Lo GrecoThis fight is Khan’s first since losing to Canelo Álvarez in the 6th round back in May 2016. Lo Greco won his most recent fight by defeating Jesus Gurrola in the 8th round by a majority decision. This fight takes place on the 21st of April in the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. Amir Khan has been recently occupied as he starred in reality TV show “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here” and came fifth. Khan & Lo Greco have already had a conference which resulted in Lo Greco leaving considerably wetter than he arrived; Amir Khan threw a cup of water onto Lo Greco for saying: “After the Canelo loss you went on a losing streak- family, wife and then you go out and tweet to the Heavyweight Champion of the world. What is wrong with you, mate?” This has caused some amount of controversy but the pair both said they’re looking for “a dog fight”. Khan apologised to the crowd for lashing out, but refuses to apologise to Lo Greco who is a former WBC Intercontinental Welterweight champion in his own right. Carl Frampton vs. Nonito DonaireJust like the Amir Khan/Phil Lo Greco fight, this one falls on the same date: April 21st. This fight will be great as the two are both really good boxers. In my opinion, Frampton is one of the greatest Featherweights. Though, just because I rate Frampton as one the best boxers in recent time, don’t rule out Donaire who is a former WBC International Welterweight Champion. Billy Joe Saunders vs. Martin Murray |
