by Rob Goodwin @REALRobGoodwinThe inaugural WWE United Kingdom Championship begins with an opening video package showcasing the 16 competitors and recapping the build-up: from Triple H saying the only problem between WWE and the UK is that they aren’t there enough, to the formal announcement at the press conference in London of a 16 man tournament to crown the first ever United Kingdom Champion. All of this is punctuated with footage of one of the greatest WWE matches of all time, that took place at Wembley Stadium - I am of course talking of the Bret Hart and British Bulldog masterclass from Summerslam 1992! What a way to get us started! We then cut live to a blackened Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, where Triple H emerges from a curtain in order to hype the crowd even more, before light floods the magnificent room to reveal the most beautiful looking belt on the current WWE roster right now! It truly is stunning, a thing of absolute beauty! We are then introduced to Michael Cole and ex-Ring of Honor champion Nigel McGuinness who will be providing the play by play for the evening. After briefly talking about the opportunity that the 16 competitors now had, they turned to the tournament bracket and outlined their favourites/dark horses for the belt (for Nigel it’s Pete Dunne whilst Michael Cole plumps for a slight underdog but excellent technician in Joseph Connors!) before then turning to the opening bout and introducing the video package that introduced the first match on the card. |
